Critique and Review of "Light and Shadow"
The six panel exhibition "Light and Shadow" by Dartist Robin Crouch provides a multifaceted approach to interpreting death. Using pen and ink and large format printing, this project exhibits her skills in line work and stylized rendering supporting a strong conceptual framework. Each panel shows different approaches and aspects of death and loss, and is accompanied by a corresponding negative. Out of all of the displays in the gallery, this piece had the least amount of physical depth but it stood out and was the first thing to capture a viewers attention as they stepped into the gallery. Most notable was the middle two images which showed rebirth and the return to earth. These intricate designs and decaying imagery remind viewers of an enticing album cover or t-shirt design. In all, this sprawling display is a grand and inviting exploration of death which still leaves all interpretation up to the onlooker.
D'Art Critique Score: 9.5/10
Notes: Successful execution and very stylized. Slight cropping of images and some discrepancies in image printing quality. Tasteful presentation.
